Explaining Psychological Statistics (2 Chapter 13 – Section D F versus Q: Different Approaches to Controlling Type I Errors with Multiple Comparisons

چکیده
In section B of this chapter, I mentioned that when using Tukey’s HSD “it is unusual to find a pair of means that are significantly different when the overall ANOVA is not significant” (p. 375; EPS, 2e). However, it is also possible, though unusual, to find no significant differences with the HSD procedure when the ANOVA is significant. Tukey’s HSD is based on a different distribution from the ANOVA, and though it always yields similar results, there is some room for discrepancies with respect to statistical significance, as I will demonstrate in the following examples.

Many tests of significance: new methods for controlling type I errors.
There have been many discussions of how Type I errors should be controlled when many hypotheses are tested (e.g., all possible comparisons of means, correlations, proportions, the coefficients in hierarchical models, etc.). By and large, researchers have adopted familywise (FWER) control, though this practice certainly is not universal. Familywise control is intended to deal with the multiplici...

A Look at Contemporary Persian Poetry, Currents in Persian Poetry in 20th Century This book is a historical survey of literature though the writer has tried to distance himself from ancient approaches and to apply a modern look of analysis, critique and stylistics. In the first chapter the methodology is discussed followed by the second chapter which talks of text and metatext and the relation...
متن کاملClassification of Quadratic Forms over Skew Fields of Characteristic 2
Quadratic forms over division algebras over local or global fields of characteristic 2 are classified by an invariant derived from the Clifford algebra construction. Quadratic forms over skew fields were defined by Tits in [14] to investigate twisted forms of orthogonal groups in characteristic 2, and by C.T.C. Wall [16] in a topological context. The purpose of this paper is to obtain a classif...

Background: Type 1 diabetes is a chronic disease that children and adolescents do not have the ability to care for themselves, despite having enough information about their self-care (nutrition, insulin, exercise, etc.). Self-care, such as any behavior, can be influenced by the way of thinking, and the philosophy teaching method can be a suitable educational tool for changing thinking. The purp...

Introduction: Self-management is an important act of controlling the adverse outcomes in multiple sclerosis as a chronic and debilitating disease. This study was aimed to consider the relationship of psychological factors, demographic features and disease characteristics with self-management behaviors and predicting it among patients with multiple sclerosis. Methods: In the correlational stu...
